Making repairs to your home can make it more attractive and increase the value. But how do you get the work done without making a big mess? There will always be some type of mess when you do home improvements or remodeling but you can minimize the mess in several ways.
- Only work on one area of the house at a time. This way you will know that there is going to be a mess in the area that is being worked on, but the rest of your home will be neat and clean. This can help when the dust and noise begin to drive you insane. You will always have an area of the house to retreat to just to get away from it all.
- Protect your wood floors and carpeting during the remodeling process. One layer of protection will not be enough. Cover the entire area with plastic, tape it down, and then use a drop cloth on top of that. This way you are making doubly sure that the flooring will not be damaged.
- Do as much of the work as possible outside of the house. This will keep the dust and the noise level down. Try to use your garage or even work outside if the weather permits. This will keep most of the dust and dirt outside of your home.
- Clean up the mess at the end of every day. This will take extra time but it will be worth it in the long run. It is easier to start fresh each day than to come back to an even bigger mess.
These tips will help you to stay calm and stress-free during the home repair process.
